Restaurant Week Runs Eight Days. Woodbury's Two Tables Don't Keep the Same Schedule.

Long Island Restaurant Week starts this Sunday, November 1, and runs through Sunday, November 8. It is the fall edition of the promotion's 20th year, and the official Nassau roster lists exactly two restaurants with a Woodbury address. Both are on Jericho Turnpike, about three blocks apart by street number: Volpe at The Fox Hollow at 7725, and Ruta Oaxaca at 8025.

Each one is offering a different set of days. Volpe's $48 dinner runs five nights. Ruta Oaxaca is the only Woodbury participant with a lunch tier, and it is open on the two nights Volpe is closed. To book a Restaurant Week meal in Woodbury, start by picking the day.

"Every Night They Are Open" Is the Phrase That Matters

The official Restaurant Week FAQ says participating restaurants must offer their $30, $40 or $48 three-course prix fixe "all night, every night they are open from Sunday to Sunday." Saturday is the one exception, when some restaurants may stop at 7 p.m. Restaurants with the $25 two-course lunch must offer it every day they are open during lunch hours.

The rule ties the deal to each restaurant's own hours. A restaurant that is normally closed on Mondays has no Monday Restaurant Week. So the eight days on the poster turn into a different number for each address.

The rest of the fine print is the same everywhere. Beverages, coffee and tea are not included, and neither is gratuity. The organizers suggest a 20% tip. According to Greater Long Island's October 14 preview, dinner menus have to offer at least three choices for each course, and restaurants can take part at any mix of the four price points.

Volpe's Restaurant Week Is Tuesday Through Saturday

Volpe is the Italian restaurant on the Fox Hollow estate, which also includes the Inn at Fox Hollow hotel and the property's wedding and event venues. Its regular hours are Tuesday through Friday 4 to 10 p.m. and Saturday 5 to 10 p.m. It is closed Sunday and Monday.

That schedule explains the dates on Volpe's Restaurant Week page, which advertises the menu Tuesday, November 3, through Saturday, November 7. The page adds its own condition:

Friday and Saturday evening reservations must be seated by 6 pm

The official rule lets restaurants stop the Saturday prix fixe at 7 p.m. Volpe's 6 p.m. seating cutoff applies to Friday as well. Volpe opens at 5 p.m. on Saturday, so a Saturday Restaurant Week dinner there has a one-hour seating window. For a later table, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday give you the full evening.

The menu starts at $48 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Here is what that price covers:

  • Appetizers: Frito Misto, mussels, Caesar, Fox Garden salad, French onion soup, baked clams or Artichoke Toscano
  • Entrées: veal scaloppini porcini, chicken parmesan, farfalle Meraviglia, North Atlantic salmon, orecchiette Barese or burrata ravioli
  • Desserts: homemade tiramisu, chocolate or vanilla gelato, or cannoli

Three entrées carry supplements. Surf and turf adds $14, filet mignon adds $19 and twin lobster tails add $25. Order the lobster and the "starting at $48" dinner costs $73 before tax, tip or a drink. The house rules matter for group dinners. Tables top out at 10 people, there is a $15 sharing fee, the deal can't be combined with other offers, and there is no takeout.

Ruta Oaxaca Covers the Days Volpe Skips

Newsday reported Ruta Oaxaca's Woodbury opening at 8025 Jericho Turnpike in December 2023. The restaurant's Woodbury page describes Oaxacan cooking built around handcrafted moles. Its other locations are in Patchogue, Astoria and Brooklyn.

The roster lists Ruta at two tiers, the $25 two-course lunch and the $40 three-course dinner. That makes it the only restaurant in Woodbury where a Restaurant Week meal can be a weekday lunch, and the only one serving the promotion on Sunday and Monday nights.

Ruta's OpenTable listing shows lunch Monday through Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday daytime service, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is labeled brunch. Dinner runs Monday through Saturday 4 to 10 p.m. and Sunday 4 to 9 p.m. The official rule covers lunch hours, and Ruta's own listing calls its weekend daytime service brunch. Call the restaurant before you plan a $25 weekend meal there.

As of this week, Ruta's roster entry has no linked menu. The number on the roster, (516) 515-9620, is the quickest way to ask what the $25 and $40 menus include.

Woodbury's Restaurant Week, Day by Day

This schedule combines Volpe's posted hours and Restaurant Week page with Ruta's OpenTable listing. Hours can change around a promotion week, so it is a starting point for booking, not a guarantee.

  1. Sunday, November 1: Ruta Oaxaca dinner, 4 to 9 p.m. Volpe is closed.
  2. Monday, November 2: Ruta Oaxaca lunch from noon and dinner from 4 p.m. Volpe is closed.
  3. Tuesday, November 3: Volpe's $48 menu begins, 4 to 10 p.m. Ruta serves lunch and dinner.
  4. Wednesday, November 4: Both restaurants are open for full evenings. Ruta also serves lunch.
  5. Thursday, November 5: Same as Wednesday. This is the last night Volpe offers a Restaurant Week seating after 6 p.m.
  6. Friday, November 6: Volpe tables must be seated by 6 p.m. Ruta's lunch opens at 11 a.m.
  7. Saturday, November 7: Volpe's last day, with seating from its 5 p.m. opening until 6 p.m. Ruta's daytime service is brunch, and restaurants may end the Saturday prix fixe at 7 p.m. under the official rules.
  8. Sunday, November 8: Ruta Oaxaca only. The promotion ends.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, both Woodbury tables are open all evening. Those are the only three nights you can choose between them freely.

When the Woodbury Nights Don't Fit

If neither Woodbury schedule works, four more participants on the official Nassau list are a short drive away. Each sits in its own town.

Opus Steakhouse at 4 Old Jericho Turnpike in Jericho is listed at $48. George White Restaurant at 33 Berry Hill Road in Syosset is listed at $25 and $40. It has one of the few local menus already posted: its $40 dinner PDF offers six appetizers, eight entrées, and carrot cake, cannoli or chocolate mousse for dessert. The Saturday prix fixe there ends at 7 p.m. To the north, Wild Honey in Oyster Bay is listed at $48 with a menu posted. To the south, The Main Event in Plainview is listed at $48.

The roster was still growing when Greater Long Island ran its preview, so check the official list again before you book.

Two More Dates on the Same Calendar

The 20th-anniversary sweepstakes opened Monday, October 26, and runs through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, November 9. It will award 20 winners a $100 gift card each, good at the participating restaurant of their choice. Entries go through the Long Island Restaurant Week website. The organizers say the promotion has given more than $40,000 to Long Island food banks and charities since 2006. That includes more than $10,000 to The INN, the Interfaith Nutrition Network.

Volpe's next prix fixe comes 18 days after Restaurant Week ends. Its Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, November 26, is three courses for $69.95 per adult and $29.95 per child, plus tax and a 22% service charge. Compared with the Restaurant Week base price of $48 plus a separate tip, the holiday dinner costs more and builds the service charge into the bill.

You can pick a Restaurant Week dinner in Woodbury by checking two restaurants' hours. Pricing a home here takes the same attention to detail: which block, which comps, which week you list. When you're ready to see what that work turns up for your address, Deepak Hemrajani and the DH Real Estate team will run the numbers.
